Politics & Religion

Politics...meh.
No matter if you are Democrat, Republican, Liberal, or apathetic. Politics plays a very important role in our lives, because they determine what basic path our country will take.
I do not belong to a party. I am one of the many apathetic. I am not sure why, but I never thought that politics were important - strangely.
Now that I think about it I guess I would probably be a Liberal; yet I believe in Capital Punishment and I am Pro Life - which is Conservative. I still would never deny a woman her choice, but over crowded prisons infuriate me. I feel like the system is corrupt and or flawed. I am not an anarchist. I believe in rules, laws, and regulations.

Religion...Christ Almighty!
I am not so much religious as I am spiritual. I was raised in a semi-Christian environment where I was taught the Ten Commandments and such. I don't disagree with a lot of the teaching of the Bible and I am not an atheist. Here's the kicker for me...judgmental Christians!
I have been in a few churches in my day and I can't deny God. But why is it that people go near insane if you ever question the Bible? Isn't that the point? To understand life and learn from your mistakes, grow wiser, help others, give, love, teach when you can, be humble and show reverence to God? I always thought so.
I don't think that you have to go to church to be a good person or even Christian. I don't even know if I consider myself a Christian. I don't think it shouldn't leave a foul taste in your mouth after you say that you are a Christian or make your ears bleed after hearing it.

Politics vs. Religion
*Spoiler-History Lesson - Sorry if this bores some of you History Haters!
Remember when the founding fathers said that church and state should be separate? I vaguely do - Thomas Jefferson wrote about this topic way back in the 1802. This country was founded on the beliefs that we do not want to create another "Great Britain". We had a revolution because we wanted to do what we wanted to do! We rebelled so that we could make a life for ourselves away from the motherland. After we succeeded in defeating the British we wanted to control this newly acquired land and named it the United States. YAY for the Europeans! We wanted a government that was free of tyranny and monarchy.  We chose a republic which our leaders would be voted in by the majority of the populace. Thank you Greece and Rome for the idea of Republic and Democracy. It works for the United States and that's all that matters/mattered!

My Point
I do believe that Church and State should be separate so that our government does not FORCE people to be one religion or another. I don't think that it is fair and it oppresses all those people that make up their own Gods/Goddesses and or worship themselves.

My Opinion
Religion is not bad, but people tend to corrupt it and make it about money, power, control and instill fear and narrow-mindedness that leaves people ignorant. If you want to know what the Bible says...then read it. It's that plain and simple.
Politics are more sketchy in that someone will always be disappointed with the winning candidate. Here is the famous quote by poet John Lydgate, later adapted by President Lincoln. “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”. This quote is perfect for politics and many other subjects.
Nevertheless I do feel that politics and religion in the US will always have close ties and never be truly separate. Que Sera Sera! (Whatever Will Be, Will Be - and yes Doris Day is singing this in my head...just go with it.)

*Also I am not a researcher and the topics/subject matter is a brief discussion not a hardcore professional documentation of history. This disclaimer is for all you nerdy smart types that love facts. A lot of this blog is my opinion.
